Company Overview
Operating today with four coil slitters and one cut to length line in Hammond, Indiana (25 minutes south of downtown Chicago), we are one of the largest Service Center distributors of prime Tin Mill Products (Tin Plate, Black Plate, TFS, Tin Coated Sheet) and stainless steel strip in slit coil form in North America.
Additionally, we are a leading supplier of galvanized, light gauge cold rolled sheet and strip, and other coated steels in coil form to hundreds of customers worldwide.
Our customers are leaders in the manufacturing of automotive & transportation components, residential windows, telecommunications cable, computer and electronic parts, hardware, and other stampings.
With our state of the art coil slitting lines, we also provide the highest quality slitting and short lead times for companies who have us slit their bare and coated steel and aluminum coils for them.
The company began in 1932 as Hokin Steel & Tinplate and was purchased by the Berlin family in 1967. In 2018, the company was acquired by Olympic Steel Inc. in support of their growth strategy to add new products and markets. With minimal customer overlap, the acquisition was a perfect complement to Olympic Steel’s existing operations.
Berlin Metals publishes a “Global Briefing” each month as a service to our valued customers, suppliers and friends. Recent briefings are available here as PDF files. We hope that the news items and data points that affect the metals industry are well represented each month and are helpful in some small way for you to better understand the past & present and plan for the future. If you are not currently on the distribution list to receive this report, please let me know and I’d be happy to add you. If you have suggestions for additional information that you’d like the report to include, I’m always open to new ideas.
